Castle Kindergarten at Hylton Castle

0191 5480170

The kindergarten is housed within a self-contained building on the site of Hylton Castle Primary School

We have three main rooms offering plenty of open spaces for activities, relaxation and sleep. The building is clean, light and airy and has a welcoming feel. Furniture and furnishings have been carefully chosen to create a safe, secure, comfortable environment filled with activities that will provide effectively for children’s interests and their varying needs throughout the day.

A very large outdoor area is directly adjoined to the premises and this can be accessed easily by the children. The premises are well secured by mesh fencing and the front entrance has robust security features. A large public car park directly outside the school’s main gates means abundant off road parking for parents and carers for dropping off and collecting their children.

Our close proximity to the local primary school means availability of ‘all-through’ care and education for families.

We offer: Places for two year olds who are eligible for the government’s free education places and places for three & four year olds who are eligible for 15 and 30 hours of free education, after school and holiday care.

We have 38 places at the kindergarten and provide childcare each weekday from the hours of 7.30am – 6.00am for 51 weeks a year

Our Local Offer

(see Sunderland Information Point/Sunderland Local Offer/Early Years and Childcare/Castle Kindergarten - Hylton Castle)

Description:

Castle Kindergarten has a clear approach for identifying, responding to, and meeting children’s additional needs. We support and involve parents (and where relevant children), actively listening to, and acting on their wishes and concerns. We work in partnership with the local authority and other external agencies to ensure the best outcomes for children and their families. We regularly monitor and review our policy, practice and provision and, if necessary, make adjustments.

Accessibility:

Our building is completely accessible, with a sloping driveway and double doors throughout the corridors and entrance. The setting is on one floor, with easy access into the rooms and we have a hard gravel path throughout our outdoor area. We have an accessible toilet and the children's toilets are in cubicles which are large enough for staff to support a child when needed.

Training:

At times, where children need very specific support, for example any medical support, staff will undertake any necessary training to ensure that the best possible care can be provided for every child.

Supporting Children with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities: Each child has a named key person, who supports them and liaises with families. The key workers are supported by our Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) and the deputy SENCO. The SENCO and key person meet with the family of any children who require any additional support, putting targeted plans in place that are outcome focused. Any plans that are in place are reviewed regularly with parents/carers to ensure that these are current and specific to the child's individual needs.

Working with outside agencies:

We may need to work alongside additional agencies to support children in the best way possible; this might include, Health Visitors, Speech and Language Therapists, Behaviour Support and Child Psychologists for example. We would always seek parental consent before doing this and you would be involved with the process throughout. Castle Kindergarten will always work in partnership with families and professionals to try and fully meet the individual child's needs.

We always seek additional training and support where necessary.
